TOPIC: Sample program gives "No devices to control"

Sample program gives "No devices to control" 1 Year, 3 Months ago
I have the PicoLCD display connected to my computer, driver installed, and accessible from SideShow Gadgets. However, when I run your sample program (either the exe as downloaded or the source via VS2008) I get a dialog that says "No devices to control" and that ends the program.

I've tried running it with the Sidebar Gadgets running and without but that doesn't seem to make a difference.

Anything I'm missing?

Thanks.

Doug

Hi Doug,

I'm terribly sorry for the late reply, I apparently did not enable auto-notification of new forum posts, so I didn't see this one come in.

It's possible that you might have a different version of the device that's not recognized. Can you confirm the Vendor and Product ID of the Pico device you have? Is it the 4x20 or the 2x20?

Let me know if you're still working on this and having troubles, and I'll gladly help out. This code is currently being used in an application for a client, so I am sure it's something we can tackle pretty easily.

I had the same problem and tried numerous things but I am quite sure it started working when I uninstalled the driver in the sideshow options, so there might be a conflict there somehow.

I have not personally used the library on a Slideshow enabled machine, so I'll do some more research there and see if you're correct about a conflict when that is being used. I opened an issue in the tracker for this: Issue #250

Hi BN. Thanks for your response. I have a 4x20 PicoLCD exactly as you show in your images. I got it from www.picolcd.com (mini-box.com) but it does not have a sticker on it with a model number or serial number. As a matter of fact, I just went to their website and they claim that the unit is no longer being manufactured. That's too bad as it was a nice device but I'd still be interested in getting this one going if you're willing to continue to support the library.

Thanks.

Doug

We do still actively support this library for a few clients who are using it commercially, so I'm definitely interested in figuring out your issue. First off, can you confirm the Vendor and PRoduct IDs for the device via Device Manager? If you're not sure how to do this, I'll provide more detailed steps. Also, regardless of whether the Sideshow Gadgets is running, do you have the device installed/enabled as a Sideshow device? To use it as a pure HID device, you don't need the PicoLCD Sideshow drivers installed. These may be conflicting with accessing the device, even if you're not actively using it via the Sideshow gadgets.
